History, foundation and functionOn 5 October 1961, the Liechtenstein National Library was established by law as an independent foundation under public law. Taking into account the special circumstances of a small state, the National Library comprises three types of libraries: a national library, a scientific library and a popular library. As the national library it is entrusted with the task of collecting, conserving and making accessible Liechtensteinese literature as completely as possible.The legal obligation for domestic printers and publishers to provide the National Library with an item of each of their produced works facilitates the collection buildiing.Details of the national literature is made accessible through the "Liechtenstein Bibliography" which is issued by the library annually.
