Beskrivelse

One of most valuable manuscript collections held by the BNCF contains almost the complete collection of Galileo Galilei’s works. This collection comprises 347 boxes of manuscript materials that have been fully restored, catalogued and digitised. You can also explore one of the most important documents in science history during the 17th and 18th centuries. Furthermore, expect to find almost all the autographs of Galilei, as well as several documents, news and texts related to him which explain the historical context and the life of the scientist. The collection also importantly features the manuscripts of Galileo’s disciples (Castles, Knights, Torricelli, Viviani), their letters and their correspondence with leading European scientists at the time (Mersenne, Gassendi, Steno, Peiresc). Lastly, the collection includes Galilean manuscripts and diaries from Accademia del Cimento.
