A bridge across Europe: linking collections at international level

The European Library is the gateway to the collections and data of Europe's national and research libraries, with some 200 million bibliographic records, hundreds of collection descriptions and 25 million digitised objects from all 47 states of the Council of Europe. We operate on the principle of open data for re-use.

The European Library and Science 2.0

The European Library was one of 498 respondents to the European Commission's public consultation on Science 2.0. The Chair of The European Library Board, Bas Savenije, took part in a validation workshop in Madrid on 4th December. The audience comprised major publishers, including Elsevier and Taylor & Francis. Libraries were represented by LIBER and The European Library.
