Agreement for Digitisation of Out-of-Print French Books
The works will be digitised by the French National Library and made available for sale online. The bibliographic records will be displayed on culture website Gallica. The European Library is delighted to see one of its partners, the Austrian National Library, contributing to Kulturpool. Other participating institutions include the Austrian Theatre Museum and the Museum of Natural History Vienna. In addition to uniting objects from several prestigious Austrian cultural institutions, Kulturpool invites user participation by allowing people to add tags to objects. A region's memory online: the digitized archives of L'Express and L'Impartial ![]()
December 1st 2009 sees the launch of the website enabling access to the digitized archives of two Neuchâtel daily newspapers, L’Express and L’Impartial at the following addresses: www.lexpressarchives.ch or www.limpartialarchives.ch. In this first stage access is restricted to the editions published between January 2000 and December 2005; those of previous years will be uploaded progressively. The complete collection of L’Express (entitled the Feuille d’avis de Nechâtel from its creation in 1738 until October 1988) and of L’Impartial (launched in 1881) will be available online by the end of 2012. The overall cost of the project is estimated at 1.5 Million Swiss francs, half of which has been contributed by the project partners the SNP Société neuchâteloise de presse, the support of the Bibliothèque publique et universitaire (BPU) of Neuchâtel, the Bibliothèque de la Ville de La Chaux-de-Fonds (BVCF) and the Swiss National Library (NL).

About The European Library - 2007
The Director-General of The Russian State Library (RSL) - Moscow, Dr Viktor V. Fedorov, signed a letter of agreement with CENL on the 6th of August; the letter of agreement details the Full Participant agreement of the RSL with The European Library. Since July 1st, 2007 the process of implementing access to the RSL collections on The European Library portal began. Access to RSL holdings will start in 2008 with their "Electronic Library of Dissertations" collection covering 174026 documents: 33594 abstracts and 140432 dissertations. 11th April 2007 Learning from New Member States of the EU The advantages of being a second rather than a first mover are apparent as the latest project of The European Library, TEL-ME-MOR, comes to a successful conclusion. The aim of TEL-ME-MOR was to bring the digital collections of 9 countries: the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Slovakia into The European Library. Full details are available in the following Press Release in English - PDF format 20th March 2007 Improving Library Services - Outcomes of EDL project Knowledge Sharing Workshop Developing more web-services, recommending OAI-PMH compliance and using FRBR techniques in The European Library were all recommendations from the EDLproject Knowledge Sharing Workshop. While formulating practical actions to further develop the web services of The European Library portal, the workshop also proved to be a good opportunity for Edlproject participants to work with members of The European Library network in a hands-on setting. Do you have several years experience coordinating activities and managing projects in the library world? IFLA, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, is seeking a Professional Support Officer to support and coordinate the activities of the Professional Committee and the IFLA professional units.
The National Library of Latvia has geo-referenced 20 historical maps as part of its participation in the Europeana Travel project. Some of the maps are nearly 300 years old, such as iesienamajam Ducatuum et Curlandia Livonia (1720), while others are more modern, such as the 1935 Latvian railway map.











Over 400 people attended the ‘’All-Ukraine Science Festival 2009” in Kiev including the press and TV journalists from “Culture TV” channel; the event was organized for representatives of the Academy of Science Institutes, National University and Specialised Libraries of Ukraine, and members of Minor Academy of Science. The National Library of Ukraine received an enthusiastic feedback following The European Library presentation.
