The job of the Operations Director oversees the ongoing delivery of digital content for a fully operational Europeana.eu. This requires the coordination of semantic interoperability work from Europeana v1.0 and the management of the operations teams for both Europeana and The European Library as the ‘Library Aggregator’ for Europeana. These teams manage the workflow of bringing content into Europeana, solving interoperability, metadata and display issues. In addition the Operations Director is responsible for 2 Scientific Coordinators, who advise Europeana related projects on interoperability and work process issues, all external interoperability managers, who ensure the mapping of data and manage the guidelines and schemas and an ingestion assistant.
The Operations Director is a pivotal role in Europeana, responsible for information quality and management on the site and for ensuring that the business and technology teams understand and deliver.

Scientific Coordinator
A Scientific Coordinator is a key role for Europeana with a view over all the content and technology deployed in Europeana and its related projects able to give advice to others and communicate new developments.
The job coordinates data storage, dissemination and technical tools and services for Europeana across all its related projects. It requires an understanding of metadata, content ingestion procedures, web technologies, tools and services and very good communication skills. It is one of two Scientific Coordinator roles within Europeana. Each role has a slightly different focus, one relating more to ingestion of content and the other, advertised here, relates to a coordination of technically related information across the projects and the coordination with Europeana version 1. The job requires the understanding and interpretation of the business and the technical and semantic interoperability requirements from a broad range of cultural heritage backgrounds. We are looking for an experienced developer, who likes working in a team and in a fast paced environment. You should have some systems knowledge and a desire to learn new things. You must be capable of writing functional specifications and documenting your own work. - Develop and oversee the Partner Content Delivery Plan to ensure an even representation of content on Europeana.
- Analyse user logs, research and general cultural and online trends to inform decisions on content, functionality and business strategy.
- Develop and execute a Policy Portfolio in areas like Intellectual Property Rights, Licensing, User Generated Content, re-use of content and re-distribution of content through other portals.

- Build and maintain the Europeana organisational structure ensuring buy in and support from all partners and stakeholders. Organise and prepare meetings, workshops and other events for the organisation.
- Develop and oversee the Partner Content Delivery Plan to ensure an even representation of content on Europeana.
- Analyse user logs, research and general cultural and online trends to inform decisions on content, functionality and business strategy.
- Develop and execute a Policy Portfolio in areas like Intellectual Property Rights, Licensing, User Generated Content, re-use of content and re-distribution of content through other portals.

The EDL Foundation, hosted by the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, National Library of the Netherlands, is involved in several successful projects aiming at developing Europeana: the European digital library.
We are looking for a dynamic, self starting Business Developer, with international experience. You are able to get the biggest and best of Europe’s cultural institutions on board and contributing content. You need to have an understanding of the techniques of internet publishing, have a grip on European cultural heritage strategy and the ability to convince at all levels. You will have fund raising experience.
You will develop the business of Europeana, its partners, models, and policies. You will oversee all projects relating to Europeana, initially these include: Arrow, (publishers and libraries), an Archives Portal, EDLlocal (regional museums, libraries, archives), Athena (museums) and EFG (European Film Gateway). You will also seek and develop new projects and opportunities for partnerships and funding (both public and private) for Europeana and the EDL foundation. You will be responsible for developing the longer term strategies for the sustainability of Europeana. You will recruit and manage a team of between 10 people rising to 15 by 2012. This team will work to create: a partner programme; put in place and manage a marketing and communication strategy; manage projects and help develop policies for governments and ministries on the exposure of European cultural heritage.
You will be experienced at a European level in the planning and executing of projects with large technical components. You are not expected to come from a technical background but some knowledge of web publishing would be useful. You are a well organized, lateral thinker with extremely good communication skills. Your tasks will include the creation and management of the overall strategy, the development of policy and selling of the idea.

The European Library is hosted by the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, in its Research and Development Department, has received funding from the European Union to undertake a project to develop the European Digital Library.
We are looking for a manager experienced at running web based services at European level. You must be capable of initiating new projects, innovating in the current service and bringing the stakeholders with you. You may have a cultural heritage or publishing background but you must have worked in an online environment and have some knowledge in the creation, delivery and marketing of a similar service. You will be a natural man-manager with general project management and budgetary skills. You will be managing a small in house team of project managers, technical developers, editors and marketers and a very wide network of individuals in the partner libraries. You must be able to think creatively and convince others of your strategic direction but you will also be very results driven.
Your tasks will include the creation and management of the overall product and service plan, the coordination of several EU funded projects, management of the in house team and its wider place within the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, management and organisation of management board and working group meetings. The job will entail some European travel, presentation at conferences and management of your own budget.

You will be experienced at a European level in planning and executing of projects with large technical components. You are not expected to come from a technical background but some knowledge of web publishing would be useful. You are well organised with extremely good communication skills. Your tasks will include the creation and management of the overall project plan, the coordination of work packages and work package leaders, the management of a small in house team and subcontractors. The job will entail frequent European travel and management of your budget.

Junior Technical Site Developer for The European Library - CLOSED
Have you just finished college? Do you have technical knowledge but lack practical experience? Do you like working with people as well as developing web sites? Then come and work within a small team of developers and architects charged with creating, developing and managing The European Library.
The European Library, hosted by the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in its Research and Development Department. The portal and service has been running for 3 years and is constantly looking for ways to improve its architecture and processes.
You will work as part of wider technical team developing prototypes for a European digital library. With training you will be expected to help to maintain the site and bring in new partners and to understand, maintain and develop the site according to functional specifications and release plans. Your tasks will include the development and maintenance of The European Library website: web applications programming, optimisation of back-end processes and components documentation. You will give technical support to The European Library partners, organize and participate in teleconferences with partners and participation in technical meetings. There will be some opportunities for travel within Europe.
Profile:

The KB hosts The European Library on behalf of all the national libraries of Europe and has received funding from the European Union to undertake a project to develop the European Digital Library.
You will therefore work across these projects, making sure that budgets and reporting works within the EC regulations and requirements per project and within internal KB requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring that time-writing is to audit standards and for creating regular financial reports both for internal and external consumption. You will ensure that all is in order for a yearly audit. You will also undertake and control the general financial administration for The European Library and its associated projects, including invoice queries, archiving of financial information and provision of financial information for new project proposals.

Your task will be to work with people across the cultural heritage domains to solve issues of interoperability. You will also collaborate closely with the groups of The European Library working on collection and object application profiles, metadata registry and service descriptions. You will be able to create functional specifications of user and stakeholder requirements and want to work in an international setting. The job will involve some European travel.

Salary
According to the Labour Agreement the salary scale indicated for this job is 7, maximum of €2.605,00 gross per month on the basis of a 40 hour week. In addition you will be entitled to 42 days holiday per year plus holiday pay and an annual bonus of 8 and 6.1% respectively.
Period of employment
Temporary appointment till 28 December 2010 for 32 hours a week based at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague, the Netherlands.
