Java Developer
Are you a skilled Java developer with enthusiasm for the cultural, educational or publishing sectors? Do you like implementing challenging requirements with enterprise technologies? Do you like to work according to agile development practices? Do you like working in a project- orientated environment? Would you like to work in an English speaking international team? Then come and join The European Library team based in the Research and Development Department of the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.
We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to help launch our new portal with state-of-the-art frameworks and technologies. With several new European research and innovation projects starting this year, you will play a significant role in designing and implementing new web applications within three-tier architectures. Applying and ensuring good software development practices according to agile development processes and continuous integration are a given.
Our technical team is advised by The European Library's Technical Working Group, made up of technical experts from all over Europe. You will take an active role within this Group, with the possibility of travelling to some of the national and research libraries across Europe. In addition, you will help provide technical support to our partners. Maintaining good awareness of software developments relevant to The European Library portal will be important for this position. We are also looking for someone with a sense of the aesthetic in portal design.

The European Library has been the online gateway to Europe's national libraries since 2005. We are now joining forces with Europe's academic libraries to provide the highest-quality content and services to research communities, particularly in the humanities and social sciences. We enjoy a close relationship with Europeana, a major initiative funded by the European Commission.
You must be a qualified marketer, with several years of relevant experience. You will be responsible for The European Library's marketing strategy and will lead the implementation of our current marketing communications plans. You will manage our marketing and promotional activities and represent The European Library at relevant conferences, meetings and other events. You will play a key role in managing relationships with our libraries networks. You will measure the impact of what we do through a set of key indicators.
