EDLproject Workplan
The work of EDLproject was organised in five workpackages (WPs).
WP1, Developing the European Library network for access to national digital
resources, assisted the 9 targeted national libraries (Belgium, Greece, Iceland,
Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain, Sweden), the remaining EU and
EFTA national libraries not yet in The European Library, to make their resources available
through The European Library and to become full members in a sustainable way.
Improvements in interoperability and usability and the creation of a metadata
registry were also targets of this workpackage.
WP2, Extending the multilingual capacity of the network, developed the
European Library network's localisation and multilingual capabilities, aimed to improve
access for end-users through multi language interfaces and advanced search
mechanisms in a standardised way.
WP3, Developing the European digital library, supported CENL members in
agreeing a roadmap describing how they would work together at national and
international level with the Commission and other key players to remove
obstacles to the creation of the European digital library. It also provided a
framework for dialogue with other willing 2005 call eContentplus projects about
their participation in an EDLproject based on TEL.
WP4, Dissemination dealt with internal dissemination to EDLproject partners and
external dissemination about the project itself. It also dealt with
dissemination of The European Library and dissemination relating to policy
development aspects of the European digital library.
WP5 provided the management and co-ordination of the project and the leadership
activities necessary in an extensive action of this kind.
